Week4: Branding Case Study

Brandingis the process that involves designing, creating and maintaining of aunique name that defines a god or a service. According to Locker(2010), branding involves the activities that turn a product into abrand, by making it known to the market. The brand under review inthis case is The Old El Paso, a meal kit brand owned by the GeneralMills. The company has other brands of Mexican foodstuff products,but its main brand is the meal kit. The Old El Paso brandincorporates burritos or tacos as part of the Mexican foodpreferences that also include seasoning and theme created meal kit(Data Monitor, 2010).

Thisbrand is well designed for the Mexican and American market due to itsinclusion of the Mexican themes. In addition, the brand includescrucial Mexican and American ingredients and themes that define itsappeal to the continental market. However, the brand is not wellbranded for the international market. This is because the Old El Pasobrand only concentrates on the ingredients, themes and packaging thatreflect the American and the Mexican consumers. The branding meansthat the meal kit will only appeal to people who are familiar withthe Mexican and American tastes and preferences.

Thecompany has accomplished what they intended to do, but has limiteditself to the initial branding goals. The branding of Old El Pasolimits its own market reach by focusing on the large American market.The self-limitation is due to the brand’s limited appeal andMexican appeal that limits the international market from identifyingwith the meal kit adapting. In addition, the naming of the brand,“Old El Paso” further confines the familiarity of the meal kit topeople who can identify with the Mexican language.

Week5: Resume and Personal Branding

Aresume is an important element of personal branding because it is themain aspect of personal presentation. To make a resume complete andreflective of a person, Locker (2010) argues that the brandingdocument should have several elements, whether essential or not.Among the essential elements that I would include in my personalresume are Name and contact information, level of education and mypast career experience. However, I would also include severalelements of a resume that are considered optional, as a way of makingmy resume more relevant to the type of job I will be applying.

Onmy resume, I would include the element of career objectives, otherskills, honors and awards and activities. The reason for includingother skills is because it allows me to introduce other areas ofexcellence in my life. These skills could be relevant or not relevantto the job under application, but will show the abilities anddynamism of my personality. In addition, I would include otheractivities section that will expound on the way I have used my skillto make a difference in the society or organizations that I haveworked before. Therefore, the section of honors and awards would beinevitable to include, in order to illustrate the awards I havegained over time in the past activities that involved my skills

Inclusionof career objective is important in a situation where a person needsto explain his or her ambitions as well as future career plans.According to Locker (2010), career objectives presents what a personintends to do in the future and gives the summary of the person’sprofessional development plans. The situation that necessitatesinclusion of summary of qualifications is when the candidate’squalifications are many and needs to be summarized to theinterviewer.

Week6: Global communication

Oneof the major challenges faced by a company operating in anotherculture is communication barrier. The ​difference in the languagesbetween two countries or two cultures leads to a need for aninterpreter, especially when negotiating business details (Chanlat etal, 2013). The communication between the company and the suppliers orcustomers in the new country and culture faces the challenge ofunderstanding the inner details of the communication process.However, the company can solve this challenge by employing newemployees who are natives of the new country of operation as a way ofbridging the communication gap.

Anothermain challenge is the planning and management of the human resourcein the new country and country. It is challenging to identifyemployees who can provide the right services because of thedifferences in the educational systems between the company’scountry and the new country (Chanlat et al, 2013). In addition, thefirm faces the challenge of managing the payments and the contractsof the new employees because different countries have differentcompensation requirements. These differences may present differentmanagement challenges for the firm that is used to its home countrystatutory regulations.

Finally,the company faces the challenge of marketing products and services tothe new consumers in relation to their culture. The company has toformulate its products to reflect the cultural and religious demandsof the new country so as to identify with the consumer. According toChanlat et al (2013), this is because the company may lose sales orpublic image if it does not restructure its marketing function toreflect the new environment.

Week7: Job Interview

Thebest interview response I have given was in the interview for aninternship position in my first formal working position. I was askedwhy I needed the internship position at the company. I responded thatI was passionate about human resource management and that the companywas the first public company I ever admired when I was young. Thatresponse earned me the position at the company. The worst responsewas during my school interview when I accidentally said I do not knowthe year I finished my high school.

Thequestion that I have always dreaded to be asked is to describe myweaknesses. It is difficult for me to respond to this questionbecause the answers can make or break the interview session and caneven make other previous good responses meaningless.

Responseto Classmates

Inquestion one, the best way is to correct oneself by giving a goodresponse, immediately after a poor answer. The first action is toquestion one above is to apologize to the interviewer. After theapologies, then give a corrected response to the question asked. Forinstance, after giving my worst response, I expressed how sorry I wasand gave the right date of completion of the high school.

Inquestion two, there are several ways of avoiding an adverse result ofthe response given in the interview. First, you can avoid giving aresponse by saying that you do not know of any weaknesses. Secondly,you can respond by providing universally known human weaknesses thatdo not jeopardize your previous answers or risk the interviewoutcome.
