Psychologyis one of the fields of study that is divided into many subfields.Personally, I am interested in three subfields, which includeclinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and cognitivepsychology. From the list of my favorite subfields in psychology, itis evident that I am attracted to human health, especially the healthissues that touch on the brain development and cognitive disorders.Indiana University (2014) listed additional subfields, but most ofthem are similar to what has been covered in chapter 8 of the coursetext. However, there are three subfields that are not listed in thecourse text, including forensic psychology, rehabilitationpsychology, and engineering psychology.
Knowledgeis one of the personal characteristics that make the three subfields(including clinical psychology, clinical neuropsychology, andcognitive psychology) a good fit for me. So far, I have acquaintedmyself with several concepts in the three subfields. Although therecommended course texts have been of great significance in myendeavor to advance my knowledge in the three subfields, studyingextra materials (such as journals) have given me an opportunity toincrease my knowledge of psychology.
AlthoughI gave a special interest in psychology as a whole, theenvironmental, quantitative, and educational subfields interests methe least. This is probably because the three subfields have nodirect correlation to human health and behavior.
Ifchallenged to develop a new subfield of psychology, I would create asubfield named the social media psychology. The new subfield wouldfocus on the psychological effect of social media on human behaviorand health. Some of the topics in the new subfields would include theeffect of social media on self perception and social media andphysical distancing among others.
